Welcome to my website where you will find hand-printed linocut prints, illustrated maps and other things, all inspired by the Northern Irish coastline where I live.
I studied at Edinburgh College of Art specialising in book illustration and graphic design. I then worked as a graphic designer in book and magazine publishing in London and brand identity in Belfast. Now I live near Strangford Lough in County Down which is the largest sea inlet in the British Isles a “designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”.
Family holidays have been spent ‘Swallows and Amazon’ style, sailing and camping on the lough’s many islands; this has led to an endless source of inspiration for my art. I developed a series of illustrated maps exploring Northern Ireland’s coastline and the heritage found there. These can be found all over the world in the houses of ex-pats and tourists; I keep hearing stories of my maps hanging in Australia, U.S.A., Canada and how they remind people of here.
My passion for birds (especially waders & puffins), wildlife and sailing is expressed in relief printing using linoleum or more recently Japanese vinyl. The images are cut into the surface, rolled up with ink and hand printed. I am a member of Seacourt Print Workshop in Bangor and I do my printing on a magnificent 1825 Columbian Press. I enjoy the handcrafted nature of this medium and the strong, bold colours.
To compliment my map and linocut prints I have an expanding gift range of greetings cards, tea towels and cushions.
